A Davenport man faces criminal charges after police said he confessed to selling marijuana from the gas station near Bettendorf Middle School.
Investigators closed Gary’s Quik Service, a BP station at 2545 18th Street in Bettendorf, for about an hour and a half late Thursday afternoon, February 28, 2013. Special Operations Unit police served a search warrant there and arrested an employee of the business, 27-year-old Daniel Peve of Davenport.
A criminal complaint said police searching the store found 129.72 grams (just over four-and-a-half ounces) of marijuana prepackaged for sale.
“Two ounces of the marijuana was in one bag and the rest of the marijuana was separated into 1/8th ounce quantities,” the complaint said.
The complaint goes on to say that Peve admitted he has been selling about a quarter-pound of marijuana per week out of Gary’s Quik Service for the past six months. The complaint alleges Peve said he was selling to about a dozen people.
The complaint said police also found text messages about selling marijuana on Peve’s cell phone, and that they found drug paraphernalia, a digital scale and packaging material at Peve’s home.
A spokesman for Bettendorf Police said the store was closed for about a hour and a half, and that store owners were not involved in Peve's alleged activity. He said owners are cooperating with the investigation.
