Early morning fire destroys mobile home in Colona, 1 injured

A News 8 viewer captured the early morning blaze Tuesday as firefighters worked to extinguish the flames.

COLONA, Ill. — Around 5:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 19, the Colona Fire Department responded to a structure fire at the Colona Park Mobile Home Community, located at Kershaw Court. According to a press release, a single-family mobile home had caught on fire with heavy smoke and flames coming from all sides.

Due to how strong the blaze had become upon arrival, firefighters began defensive fire attacks immediately from the exterior. According to the release, firefighters worked to suppress the flames for hours and remained on scene until around 7:30 a.m.

One civilian was injured from the blaze, but no additional details were provided. The Colona Fire Department's Investigation Division will be looking into the fire's cause.

Video recorded and sent in by News 8 viewer David Martin shows firefighters starting to extinguish the flames that appear to have engulfed a mobile home and adjacent vehicle.
