Strong winds, high fire danger today

Advisories issued for wind, warnings in effect for fire danger

It's a combination we only get a few times a year: strong winds and low humidity.

Winds will increase through the day on Thursday with gusts near 45 mph possible in the late-afternoon and evening. The wind will be coming in from the west, which will mean north-to-south oriented roadways could see some buffeting trucks and possible rollovers.

We've seen that occur on I-74 with similar winds late last year.

In addition to the strong winds, relative humidity could be down below 30% for a time this afternoon. That is quite low and would promote the movement of a fire, should one break out.

Please exercise extreme caution and if you see anyone burning, please caution them to stop or notify law enforcement.

Relative humidity levels typically go up at nighttime, but strong winds will remain through Friday morning.
