Rain, snow and cold weather ahead

The larger of two weather systems this week arrives late Thursday with some of the coldest air of the year moving in by Saturday morning.

ARIZONA, USA — We are tracking moisture across northern and western Arizona for Tuesday night through Wednesday morning. Overall moisture will be very light and any snow accumulations above 6,000 feet will be light as well.

The High Country will be dealing with wind gusts of 25 mph on Wednesday and up to 40 mph gusts on Thursday.

A stronger storm system will follow on Thursday and Friday with a greater chance of rain in the lower elevations and measurable snow above 6000 feet. Flagstaff could see up to 5 inches of snow while the Kaibab Plateau is expected to pick up 6 inches of snow. The highest elevations of Rim Country and the White Mountains will also pick up 1 to 6 inches of snow. Rain showers are expected to move across the Valley with totals of 0.10" possible; rainfall is expected to increase closer to the higher terrain to the north and east of the Valley.

As the week progresses, there will be updates to the timing and intensity of these storms system as well as rain and snow totals.

Following this storm system, all of Arizona will feel below normal temperatures return; something we haven't seen since October. Morning lows in Phoenix this weekend will drop into the upper 30s while the high country could see some single-digit lows!
