LOCAL 5 FORECAST: Rain likely for many areas to start the week

Most of the rain will fall Monday afternoon and evening before the wet weather shifts south early Tuesday.

It has been a cloudy and sometimes wet day out there for Fair-goers. Most of the rain has been on the light side so far in the Metro, but that could change later this evening.

Look for showers to continue off-and-on overnight, with heavier rain and thunder likely to form over parts of central and southwestern Iowa late. The rain should clear out by sunrise Tuesday in central Iowa, and then by late morning in southern Iowa.

Southwestern and western Iowa will have the best chance to see totals higher than an inch, while central Iowa should stay just a bit lower. Still- close to a half inch may fall near metro Des Moines, which is much better than nothing! Clouds and rain will keep temperatures cooler-than-average today, with highs only in the 60s north and 70s farther south.

Sunshine will return by Tuesday afternoon, and it'll stick around through Thursday with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s each day. The middle of the week should be perfect for the Iowa State Fair! Another shot at rain will arrive Friday, and it may stick around through at least the first part of the weekend.

We'll see you at the fair! Enjoy the wet weather!
