CARBON CLIFF, Ill. — The Illinois Department of Transportation announced a construction project on Thursday, April 2nd, involving the interchange of IL 5 and IL 92.

The area, near Carbon Cliff and just northeast of IL 84, will begin seeing construction on Monday, April 6th. The project seeks to make bridge repairs and add a new concrete overlay to a section of the bridge over railroad tracks.

Traffic will be restricted to one lane in each direction with temporary barrier wall for this bridge work. Drivers should be alert for the lane closures and reduce speed when traveling through the work area.

Motorists can expect delays and should allow extra time for trips through this area. To avoid the work area, when feasible, use of alternate routes should be considered. Drivers are urged to pay close attention to changed conditions and signs in the work zones, obey the posted speed limits, refrain from using mobile devices and be alert for workers and equipment.

The project estimated to cost just under 2 million dollars and is expected to be complete in mid-August.
