Powerful Women. Powerful Positions.

WONDER WOMEN is a podcast that showcases the female movers and shakers running and leading businesses, non-profits, governments, and schools across the Quad City Area, Iowa, and Illinois.

EPISODE 19: Quality Over Quantity. That is the philosophy that Dr. Lauren Hughes lives by every day - in her career... and in life.

Lauren is an Associate Veterinarian at Animal Family Veterinary Care Center in Davenport, Iowa and part of her job is caring for the animals at Niabi Zoo in Coal Valley, Illinois.

Lauren talks about how she got into this unique career during this month's podcast episode. This "Wonder Woman" was one of the first - a "guinea pig," if you forgive the pun - to go through a special program at the University of Illinois and has traveled to train for the important work she does in the Quad Cities.

We are digging deeper in this podcast, though.

We ask Lauren how being a woman factored into her career - an industry that was not always dominated by females, but is now. We learn more about how her mother, a stay at home mom and a "Wonder Woman" in her own right, was a huge influence to her and her siblings, and what kinds of lessons she is teaching her two daughters about "Girl Power." Again, QUALITY over QUANTITY. It's something we all need to consider in our own lives.

As an added bonus, we ask Lauren what her favorite - and least favorite - animal is, which may sound childish - but hey, she works with ALL animals so you know she's going to have an interesting answer. Plus, I bet it surprises you!
