MOLINE, Illinois – It’s a campaign that will bring a new face to Springfield to represent the Quad Cities.

The Illinois 72nd Assembly district has been represented by Democrat Pat Verschoore since 2003.

He’s retiring, opening the way for a new face to represent the Quad Cities and western Rock Island County in Springfield.

The two candidates are Democrat Mike Halpin, an attorney and former aide to Rep. Lane Evans.

And Republican Brandi McGuire, a mother best known for challenging a school district which wouldn’t permit her daughter to attend school with a companion dog.

We started our 30 minute discussion talking about state government and its on-going budget impasse.

We talked to both candidates about the most vulnerable Illinois residents, taxes, and passenger rail to the Quad Cities.

The last part of our interview centered on Exelon Energy's nuclear power plant in Rock Island County, the minimum wage, medical marijuana, and concealed carry gun laws in Illinois.
