The fate of pension reform is still up in the air in Illinois, with the deadline looming for lawmakers set to leave Springfield.
House Speaker Mike Madigan tried to get a pension reform bill passed Tuesday, but Republicans pushed back, citing the bill's provision that school districts gradually pick up the tab for teacher pensions, not the state.
Frustration boiled over when GOP State Rep. Mike Bost of Murphysboro screamed, yelled and threw papers on the House floor, erupting in anger at the way the bill was introduced.
''You should be ashamed of yourselves!'', Bost yelled from the podium. ''I'm sick of it! Every year! We give power to one person. It was not made that way in the Constitution!''.
Bost said there was no time to read the hundred page bill, brought up for a vote hours after it passed through committee.
Illinois is 83 billion dollars in the red in its pension fund.
Lawmakers are set to adjourn Thursday.
