UPDATE – Woman killed, man injured in Galena crash

Two Wisconsin residents were injured when the driver went off the road and ended up crashing into a building.

GALENA, Illinois — A Wisconsin woman died and her husband was injured following an accident Sunday afternoon near Galena when their car went off the road and crashed into first a tree and then a building.

The driver, Kenneth Lukow of Mt. Pleasant, Wisconsin, and a passenger, Margaret Lukow, also of Mt. Pleasant, were headed northbound on Route 84 near Council Hill Road when the vehicle went off the road and hit a tree, according to a statement from the Jo Daviess County Sheriff’s Office. After hitting the tree, they continued through a fence and the vehicle finally stopped when it hit a building. The crash happened before 1:30 p.m. Sunday, July 24, 2016.

Both Kenneth and Margaret Lukow were injured and taken to a Galena area hospital. Margaret died on Tuesday as a result of her injuries after being transported to University of Wisconsin hospitals in Madison.

Galena EMS, the Galena Fire Department, and the Galena Police Department all assisted at the scene.
