A Colorado mom said she saved a puppy’s life by breastfeeding the animal.
According to KDVR, the woman had taken in a litter of lab-mix puppies that had no mother. When she noticed the runt of the litter wasn’t eating puppy formula or taking anything from a bottle, she decided that she would try breastfeeding the puppy.
The puppy took the breast milk and was eventually taking the proper formula out of a bottle.
According to the report, a veterinarian, Dr. Amber Williams, said she does not recommend breastfeeding a puppy because human milk isn’t the most nutritious food for other animals. She added that in doing so, a mother runs the risk of transferring diseases from puppies to babies.
KDVR reported the woman’s 15-month old baby had be weaned off her milk prior to feeding the puppy.
