Dog dies in Moline house fire

Two vehicles were destroyed and a dog died when fire consumed a residential garage near Franklin Elementary School in Moline, Illinois.

The fire was reported at a home on the corner of 12th Avenue and 53rd Street Drive just before 1 p.m. Monday, December 1, 2014.

Firefighters arrived to heavy smoke and flames visible from the outside of the two-vehicle garage.  An SUV and another vehicle were both destroyed, and it appeared the fire had spread past the garage to the living area of the home.

Flames were knocked down about 15 minutes after the fire was reported.  Heavy smoke continued to pour from the home, and water hoses run across the road blocked 12th Avenue between 53rd and 54th streets.  Nearby Franklin Elementary School was not impacted.

Two ambulances were seen at the scene, but there were no immediate reports of any injuries to any people.

There was one, initially unconfirmed report that a dog may have perished in the fire.  A Moline firefighter later confirmed the dog had died.

Firefighters from Moline and East Moline departments remained at the scene for about two hours.
