MOLINE, Illinois -- A report of someone with what looked like a handgun prompted a lockdown at three schools in Moline.
On Tuesday morning, December 11, police were called to the 2300 block of 34th Street, which is near Moline High School. Someone had reported seeing two males walking down the street and saw one of them "pull something out of a bag that resembled the handle of a firearm," police said.
Area schools were placed on lockdown, including Moline High School, Roosevelt Elementary School and Coolidge School. Police searched the area but didn't find anyone matching the description of the males that were spotted.
Detective Michael Griffin with the Moline Police Department said there was no threat to the schools and that the lockdown was "out of an abundance of caution."
The lockdowns were lifted after a thorough search of the area, said police.
