ROCK ISLAND, Illinois - Katrina Osborn enjoys splashing in the water with her daughter, on a hot day they're enjoying cooling off in the fountains at Schweibert Park.

"We spend most of our time outside she likes being outside so whether it`s hanging out at home or going to a friends house," said Katrina Osborn.

It's important to stay cool when the temperature is rising, especially for an active family like theers.

"Drink lots of water, wear loose fitting clothes, light colored clothes," said Jeremy Pessman, Medic EMS.

Medic EMS sees an increase in calls during the summer months with people staying outside longer.

"A lot of heat related issues during the summer, people not staying hydrated, people not recognizing the signs that they`re in trouble," said Pessman.

When you're in the heat there are some warning signs to be aware of.

"Feeling light headed, dizzy, get to a nice cool space, get hydrated, drink some water and cool off for a little bit," said Pessman.

For people who may not have a place to cool off at there's cooling stations like the one at Christian Care in Rock Island.

"Were here so that people don`t have to go through those sometimes life-threatening situations," said Marilyn DeMay, Christian Care.
