People living in one Quad City mobile home park are scrambling to find a new place to stay.

Management at Lake Canyada on Davenport's west side told its residents the park would close at the end of June.

"Oh yeah, I'm under stress. I've got a bad heart and everything," said Gilbert Cole, one of the park’s last remaining residents.

For the last five years, Lake Canyada has been home for Cole.

"I like it out here, it was nice and quiet. I got along good with all my neighbors and everything. It was really nice out here," Cole said.

But in April, that all changed. Cole and his neighbors were told by management that the Lake Canyada Mobile Home Park would be closing in June. He started packing soon after, planning to move into a larger mobile home given to him by a neighbor.

"It made me feel a lot better because at first we didn't know what we were going to do. I can't afford to move in town, it’s too much rent. So when they gave me that one, it made me feel a lot better. I kind of knew what I was going to do then," explained Cole.

He plans to move to a nearby mobile home park. But not everyone has been able to relocate yet.

"I'm one of the lucky ones. Other people don't have anywhere to go. Like that old guy that lives down here, he's a veteran. He doesn't have anywhere to go. He hasn't even started packing anything yet," said Cole.

Management at Lake Canyada has now pushed the closing back until the end of July. It's a big relief for Cole, because the moving process has been hindered by wet weather.

"It's hard, you know to keep this one going here and then getting everything ready to go and then keep having to wait and wait and wait. Just deal with it every day I guess the best I can."

Scott County had originally planned to cut off sewer service to the park at the end of this month. The deadline has since been extended to match the closing of the park at the end of July.
