With heat indices spiking into the 100-plus range, the Rock Island Police Department is doing its part to help city residents stay cool.
At noon today, officers will open a neighborhood fire hydrant at 14 1/2 Street and 10th Avenue. They’ll also be handing out freezer pops.
The RIPD officers use their own funds to pay for the Cops and Freezer Pops program, along with donations of freezer pops from Hy-Vee. Officers will be handing out freezer pops throughout several neighborhoods as long as the heat lasts.
