Tonight was the official kick-off for the 30th student hunger drive, where hundreds of high school students will collect for the River Bend Foodbank.  The student-led food drive is the biggest in the area, collecting more than 650,000 last year alone.

The River Bend Foodbank was packed with students Monday night. 18 Quad City area high schools come together to help feed the hungry.

On Monday, October 5th, the schools competed in a talent show. The school with the best skit got 2,000 pounds of food to add to their collection. Their work will continue, for the next six weeks students will collect donations.

The River Bend Foodbank serves 22 counties in Iowa and Illinois.

"There`s enough food out there to feed everybody it`s just we`re throwing it away, so we just need to get the word out, help people realize how big of an issue it is," said executive director, Mike Miller.

This year's talent competition winner went to QC Christian School. On November 12th students will turn in their donations to find out how much was raised.
