Monument serves as moral reminder to Ambrose students

St. Ambrose University has joined the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities to dedicate a statue in remembrance of the Holocaust.

St. Ambrose University has joined the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities to dedicate a statue in remembrance of the Holocaust.

On Thursday, October 3, 2013 people gathered for the dedication of a monument, meant to remind students to always stand up for what is right.

The monument represents the 23,000 non-jews who helped the Jewish people get through the Holocaust and survive. Those thousands are respectfully called righteous gentiles.

“The Jewish Federation works with all religions in the Quad Cities because we have many more similarities than differences and we try to stress the similarities and not talk much about the differences, but try to work through them,” said Allan Ross, the Executive Director of the Jewish Federation of the Quad Cities.

Representatives from the federation, St. Ambrose, Temple Emanuel in Davenport, Congregation Beth Israel in Rock Island, and special guests were in attendance.
