Moms Clean Air Force Take to Washington, D.C.

Hundreds of moms just wrapped up a trip to our nation`s capital addressing concerns about climate change and clean air.

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Hundreds of moms just wrapped up a trip to our nation`s capital addressing concerns about climate change and clean air.  The women behind it all are  Moms Clean Air Force.  They use to power of moms to protect their children's health against climate change.

No fight is too big for Moms Clean Air Force.

"We need to start preparing for the impacts of climate change," says Crystal Yost from Geneseo, Illinois.

Yost is part of a group of thousands of other moms, children and dads united against the changing climate.

The group made a trip to Washington D.C. this week for their 3rd annual Play in for Climate Action. Even the youngest members of the group got a chance to speak up to lawmakers.

"Some of these kids have lung diseases so they are impacted by the air quality and it's really important to give them a chance to talk about this. They're just as knowledgeable and some even more knowledgeable as the people they were talking to about the issues," says Yost.

Yost says future generations are most important. She wants to make sure every child has a healthy future.

"There is an urgent need to act on climate right now for our children's sake," added Yost.

That's what local leaders are working towards also.

"I-74 is under construction right now but typically it sees about 74,000 vehicles per day," says Brandon Melton with Bi-State Regional Commission.

Melton says transportation has the biggest impact on climate change,

"Our biggest push right now is promoting alternative transportation. transit, trials and walking to reduce the car trips that are occurring," added Melton.

Both taking steps towards a healthy future for generations to come.

"We can save children's lives if we are ready and working on this issue. we are hopeful that we will only move forward," says Yost.

On August 16, 2016 Moms Clean Air Force will hold a puppet show at the Putnam museum in Davenport to keep families talking about climate change.
