Local reservist killed in motorcycle crash

A Moline man who served  with the Army and then with the Army Reserves died in a motorcycle crash Sunday, July 29, 2012.

Timothy Foster, 47, was riding with a group of motorcyclists northbound on Scenic Ridge Road when he lost control of his motorcycle as he tried to pass another rider.  Foster’s motorcycle left the road and struck a tree.  He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.

Police said Foster was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Patriot Guard riders will participate in honoring Foster.   Arrangements are through Wendt Funeral Home, 1811 15th Street Place in Moline, where visitation is set for Wednesday, August 1 from 5 to 8 p.m. and funeral services are set for Thursday, August 2 at 11 a.m.

Timothy Foster was born in Moline and graduated from Moline High School in 1983.  He attended Black Hawk College and enlisted in the Army in 1983.  He served in the 368th Engineer Battalion in Germany, Iraq and Afghanistan.   

A spokesperson for the Quad City-Area Patriot Guard said Foster served three deployments in Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom.  He then moved to being an active member of the Army Reserves.  He also worked as a machinist at BMS Manufacturing in Milan. 

“Tim was a true military man who lived the military,” said his obituary tribute posted on the funeral home’s website

Foster will be buried at the Rock Island Arsenal National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a fund for his daughters, Savanna and Kailyn.
