Which lanes will close, and when, on the Centennial Bridge

Traffic could still travel on the Centennial Bridge as crews began preparing to eventually shut it down to all traffic.

Workers with KPFF Consulting Engineers say that both of the Illinois-bound lanes of the Centennial Bridge will stay open on Monday, July 7, 2014. One Illinois-bound lane of the Centennial Bridge was scheduled to close later the week of July 7.

Around 9 a.m. Monday, July 7, crews closed down one Iowa bound lane of the bridge, as scheduled. The Illinois Department of Transportation already started work beneath the bridge. IDOT needs to replace beams on the bridge. On Monday, crews put cones up to block one lane of the Iowa bound lanes.

Crews were set to close one lane for each direction of travel on the bridge until August 3.  All lanes were to be open from 6 to 9 a.m. and from 3 to 6 p.m. until the bridge is closed to all traffic August 3.

Starting August 3, the bridge will completely shut down until September 5, 2014.
