LECLAIRE, Iowa — LeClaire, Iowa and Port Byron, Illinois faced off this afternoon in the 30th Annual Tug Fest.
The tug-of-war style event is the only one in the country to span two states and cross the Mississippi River. Eleven teams from each side competed against each other, pulling on a gigantic 2,400 foot long, 680 pound rope.
"It's kind of a part of the deal, watching the person in front of you, step when they step and keep good form - it's pretty fun having the crowd cheer you on, it's pretty motivating. Everyone steps off the rope feeling pretty good about themselves," said Lyle Anderson.
Illinois won this year's tug 11-0.
This year's Tug Fest theme was "Pulling' Back the 80's" and the Tug Fest proceeds go to Hand-In-Hand.
