Hundreds ran ‘for laughs’ in Gilda’s Club 5k

Runners took off for the second annual Gilda’s Run for Laughs, which benefits Gilda’s Club of the Quad Cities the morning of Saturday, April 16.

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois — Hundreds of people started their weekend enjoying the beautiful weather while running for a good cause.

Runners took off for the second annual Gilda's Run for Laughs, which benefits Gilda's Club of the Quad Cities the morning of Saturday, April 16. The event is named after comedian Gilda Radner, who died of ovarian cancer.

The race brought out nearly 600 people to the district of Rock Island. Before the 5K got started, children completed a one mile fun run and each of the kids got a ribbon as they crossed the finish line.

"It's so fun to see all the kids out here just having fun and getting some exercise and teaching them to help out with a good cause," said Joy McMeekan, Gilda's Club Development Director.

Runners and fans enjoyed a post-race party at Ribco where a Blues Brothers tribute band provided entertainment.
