Habitat for Humanity is nearing its 100th house as it broke ground on two homes Saturday, May 2, 2015.

Families, friends, sponsors and volunteers gathered for the event in the 900 block of Tremont Avenue in Davenport, Iowa.

The homes are No. 92 ad 94 for the organization. One of the homes will go to Tanneshia Garcia and her three daughters. The other home will house Avita Hicks and her two daughters.

Each Habitat home needs $100,000 to build in the Quad Cities. For one of the homes, an anonymous donor helped immensely with a gift of $60,000 to start. That home will be built in honor of Pope Francis in part for his commitment to social justice, according to a statement from the organization.

Habitat is looking for additional funding for these homes as well as volunteers.  If you, your church, or faith-based organization would like to learn more about the process, you are asked to call Dougal Nelson at 563-359-9066.  Click here to learn how to donate.
