Gear from drug bust donated to local school district

Greenhouse and horticulture equipment seized during the bust of an East Galesburg marijuana grow operation is being donated to Knoxville, Illinois schools.

Greenhouse and horticulture equipment seized during the bust of an East Galesburg marijuana grow operation is being donated to Knoxville, Illinois schools.

The equipment was seized by the Knox County Sheriff’s Department and East Galesburg Police as part of an investigation into a cannabis growing operation in 2012 in the Village of East Galesburg.

This is the second donation of such equipment to the Knoxville School District.

The Knoxville Superintendent, Steve Wilder says the equipment helps teach the students an important lesson of how to turn a negative into a positive.

"We fight so many outside influences with the students, trying to steer them in the right direction," Wilder says.  "I can't think of anything better than to use equipment like this for a positive reason."

“The Sheriff’s Department tries to offer the equipment to the school district in which the seizure took place,” said a statement from the department.

The equipment is worth several thousand dollars.
