Concert attendee’s American flag burned by vandal at Mississippi Valley Fair

Mississippi Valley Fair attendees want to find the person who set their American flag on fire.

Mississippi Valley Fair attendees want to find the person who set their American flag on fire.

Jake Redecker said he had two American flags hanging from the back of his truck. When he came out from the Big & Rich concert on Sunday, August, 9, 2015, he found one of the flags burnt, with damage to his tailgate and bumper.

"Very surprised. Very. I didn't think it was true at first, I just couldn't wrap my head around it," said Redecker.

Redecker and his girlfriend, Kassandra Melton, said the vandalism was even more shocking because it happened during a country music concert.

"They were pulling veterans up on stage and singing all those patriotic songs... I just did not expect that at the Mississippi Valley Fair, whatsoever," said Melton.

Shortly after the incident, Redecker posted pictures of the burnt flag on Facebook. In less than 24 hours, the post had been shared more than 2,000 times.

Redecker also filed a police report Monday afternoon, hoping to find the person or group responsible for the damage.

"I just can't even put it into words. It's just so disrespectful having the American flag being burnt. It's just ridiculous to me that somebody in this country would actually want to do that," said Redecker.

Redecker said several people have already offered to buy him a new American flag.
