Update: The man who led Iowa State Patrol officers on a chase through parts of rural Scott County, crashed through the gate of the Davenport Municipal Airport and died after his car struck a fuel container has been identified as Scott M. Schaefer, 29, of Clinton.
Officials have not released any other details, including a possible motive.
Schaefer did have a number of criminal convictions, including one charge of assault while displaying a dangerous weapon in 2007, according to court records.
Earlier: Davenport, Iowa-- A man has died after crashing into a fuel container at the Davenport Municipal Airport.
Iowa State Patrol was notified of a reckless driver in Clinton County on the morning of June 30th.
Patrol officers chased the suspect into Davenport to the airport. The driver crashed through the gates of the Davenport Municipal Airport and drove onto the runway.
A state patrol deputy says the driver then accelerated and crashed into fuel container causing the vehicle to catch on fire.
The driver's name hasn't been released and the incident is still under investigation.
