13 Naperville North students hospitalized after eating laced gummy bears

They’ve been experiencing symptoms that include fast heart rate, dizziness and dry mouth.

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (WGN) — Thirteen students at Naperville North High School were taken to a local hospital after eating gummy bears believed to be laced with “another substance.”

Police said at a news conference Tuesday that students interviewed believed the candy was laced with marijuana, but that has not been confirmed.

Authorities said they evaluated 14 students at the school Tuesday morning, 13 known to be associated with the laced candy. The 13 students were transported to Edward Hospital — 11 remain there in stable condition while two others were treated and released. They’ve been experiencing symptoms that include fast heart rate, dizziness and dry mouth.

A 17-year-old is in custody for his involvement in the incident. Police say he is cooperating with them.
