ROCK ISLAND, Ill. — One person is dead and another is in the hospital after a two-way crash near the Centennial Bridge Tuesday afternoon, according to the Rock Island Police Department.

On Nov. 1 at about 3:56 p.m., RIPD responded to the scene of a fatal traffic crash at the intersection of Route 92 and the Centennial Bridge's off-ramp.

At the scene, officers found two cars, a Chevrolet and a Hyundai, heavily damaged by the collision, as well as two crash victims.

A 52-year-old man, the driver of the Chevrolet, was extracted from the car and sent to the hospital, where he was later pronounced deceased. An occupant of the Hyundai was also sent to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

According to witnesses, the Hyundai's driver fled the scene after the accident. Authorities later determined that the Hyundai had been reported stolen out of Rock Island on Oct. 30.

The incident remains under investigation, and no further information is currently available.

Anyone with information related to this case is asked to contact the Rock Island Police Department at (309) 732-2677 or Crime Stoppers at (309) 762-9500 or using the P3 Tips app.
