ROSEMONT, Ill. — The Big Ten Conference named Iowa's Jack Campbell the Nagurski-Woodson Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year on Tuesday, according to a Big Ten news release.
In addition to Campbell, the conference unveiled the all-conference honorees for defensive and special teams. The recipients were selected by a vote from two groups, the conference coaches and a media panel.
2022 Big Ten Individual Award Winners
- Nagurski-Wooden Defensive Player of the Year: Jack Campbell, Iowa
- Dungy-Thompson Humanitarian Award: Nate Sudfeld, Indiana
- Ford-Kinnick Leadership Award: Ron Guenther, Illinois
- Hayes-Schembechler Coach of the Year (coaches vote): Jim Harbaugh, Michigan
- Dave McClain Coach of the Year (media vote): Jim Harbaugh, Michigan
- Smith-Brown Defensive Lineman of the Year: Mike Morris, Michigan
- Butkus-Fitzgerald Linebacker of the Year: Jack Campbell, Iowa
- Tatum Woodson Defensive Back of the Year: Devon Witherspoon, Illinois
- Bakken-Andersen Kicker of the Year: Jake Moody, Michigan
- Eddleman-Fields Punter of the Year: Bryce Baringer, Michigan State
- Rodgers-Dwight Return Specialist of the Year: Jaylin Lucas, Indiana
Campbell earned defensive player of the year honors after compiling 115 tackles, 3.5 tackles-for-loss, two interceptions, one force fumble and one fumble recovery. Campbell helped lead the Iowa defense that finished as one of the best in the country.
Campbell was named a permanent team captain for the Hawkeyes after the 2021 season, in which he was named an All-Big Ten first-teamer and second-team All-American.
