BETTENDORF, Iowa — A Quad Cities credit union is supporting area students on multiple career paths with a total of $15,000 in scholarships to be awarded in 2023, and now they can participate just by applying online.
In 2023's annual, now-entirely-online scholarship program, Ascentra Credit Union will be awarding 15 $1,000 scholarships to students in its membership; distributing the money to five students in each of 3 different paths of post-secondary education.
- Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to high school student members planning to enter college.
- Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to "non-traditional" student members age 19 or over planning to attend higher education.
- Five $1,000 scholarships will be awarded to members entering vocational school or college with a trade program.
“We are always evaluating how we meet our members where they are,” Senior Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer Jennifer Naeve said. “Not only do we want to offer scholarships for all types of students, but we want to make it easier for them to apply so that there are no barriers for them in the process.”
Entrants will be judged on criteria depending on their educational path. High schoolers planning for college and "non-traditional" students will be judged on their essay, resume, awards, extracurriculars, volunteering and work experience. Vocational students will have to submit a letter of recommendation from a teacher or advisor, as well as give a brief plan on how they intend to use the scholarship.
The program allows students to apply every year that they are enrolled in an accredited institution, even if they have previously received the scholarship.
For official rules and to apply for these scholarships and others, visit ascentra.org/scholarships. All entries must be submitted no later than March 1, 2023.
