QC leaders get opportunity to see after school programs in action

Quad Cities community leaders got to see firsthand the benefits of after school programs in the area.

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Quad Cities community leaders got to see firsthand the benefits of after school programs in the area.

On Wednesday, November 16, 2016, more than 100 kids from three different after school programs met at the Putnam Museum for the "Lights on After School Celebration."

Organizers said it was a great way for community leaders to see how important these programs are for kids, and support them either financially or by volunteering.

Nate Clark, the Vice President of the John Deere Foundation said not only is it good for the kids, but for their families as well.

"They provide academic support and they also help support working families who are looking to find ways to take care of their kids when they are still at work or in the office," Clark said.

Clark also said that for every one kid who is in an after school program, there are two more waiting to get in.
