DAVENPORT, Iowa - A group of Davenport West High School students are leaving the states next month to head to Kenya. They'll be bringing some tools to help other students succeed.
Through the school's STEM program, robotic kits have been sent there before, but this year will be the first time students will also be making the trip.
"We're going to teach the students how to program and teach them about simple machines and we'll also train teachers how to better teach their students," said student, Rachel Eckart.
For many of the Kenya students seeing a robot will be a first for them, giving them an hands on learning experience.
"By teaching the kids in Kenya it will inspire them to innovate which is very important," said student, Mayli Grady.
The Engineering Design and Development class is also finding a way to help out.
Students have started building huts for homeless children.
"We decided to build affordable, replicable and functional housing for them," said Taylor Carstens, a student at Davenport West.
A total of seven students will head to Kenya on June 14th, for two weeks.
