A 20-year old Davenport man accused of murder made his first appearance Friday, December 20 in front of a judge in the slaying of a Rock Island tattoo artist.

Aaron Henderson is charged with first degree murder, accused of shooting Derek Jackson in the head and arm.

A court document says Henderson was “acting with another while attempting a robbery.”

Another charge of armed robbery states Henderson “rifled through his (Jackson’s) pockets” after the shooting.

Rock Island police declined to comment on the wording of the charge referencing a second suspect, saying the department is still “involved in an active/open investigation”.

Henderson told the judge he didn’t have any money for an attorney, so a public defender will be assigned to the case.

He is being held on one million dollars bond.

After the hearing, a friend of Jackson’s told WQAD that his friend had been robbed in the past, and was a target because he was running a successful tattoo business.

He also said he believes the second suspect in the killing is a juvenile.

Funeral arrangements for Jackson are pending at Esterdahl Mortuary.
