Police chase from Moline to Rock Island started at bank, ended with arrests

Law enforcement was on scene in a Rock Island neighborhood with a K-9 unit Wednesday afternoon, December 5.

ROCK ISLAND, Illinois -- Two people were arrested after leading police on a chase from Moline to Rock Island and hitting a squad car in the process.

The situation started at a Wells Fargo in Moline, where police said two suspects were planning to rob the bank.  However, the bank manager locked the doors after noticing them acting suspiciously.  It happened Wednesday afternoon, December 5, around 3:30 p.m.

Police say the two men were Alexander J. Quick,29, and Michael V. Johnston,31.

As multiple officers arrived on the scene, the two men fled the area in a black 2006 Pontiac heading eastbound

The two men reportedly got out of their vehicle and fled on foot.

The two men were able to evade pursuing police until a citizen contacted Rock Island Police Department advising she observed them in the 3300 block of 14th Street Court in Rock Island.

Moline Police, Rock Island Police and Rock Island County Sheriff’s Department set up a perimeter, where after a short period of time, the suspects were apprehended without further incident.

Police said the suspects were involved with armed robberies earlier in the day, but it was not clear where.

There was one knife recovered in the incident. There were no reported injuries.

Both men are being held in the Rock Island County Jail without bond pending review by the Rock Island County State’s Attorney’s office.

They face the following charges:

Alexander J. Quick

  1. Aggravated fleeing/eluding a peace officer
  2. Criminal damage to state-supported property
  3. Aggravated battery to a peace officer as well as unrelated warrants out of Iowa.

Michael V. Johnston

  1. Aggravated battery to a peace officer
  2. Criminal damage to state-supported property and unrelated warrants out of the Iowa department of corrections for parole violations.
