Officer injured, pit bull killed in Davenport disturbance

A Davenport police officer was injured and a pit bull killed in a disturbance on Locust Street in Davenport on Friday.

Davenport, Iowa – Davenport police shot and killed a pit bull that attacked an officer who was responding to a fight Friday morning on W. Locust Street. Two adults and a juvenile were arrested during the disturbance.

One officer was bitten by the pit bull and was treated for injuries at Genesis Medical Center.

According to police, officers were called to 300 W. Locust shortly after 10 a.m. Friday for a disturbance. While officers were dealing with the combatants, a pit bull charged out of the front door of a residence, attacking an officer and biting him. The officer who was bitten fired his service weapon and killed the dog. The animal was turned over to animal control for evaluation.

Arrested were Darius Rockwood, 20, charged with child endangerment without injury, criminal mischief 4th degree and disorderly conduct and Lucas Nicol, 38,  charged with disorderly conduct and fighting. Both men are from Davenport.
