This is the second day people living on this hill-side over looking 7th avenue have been forced to use the Post Office's new cluster boxes. They're only two days in, but these residents say there's not much they like about the new arrangement.

"It's an eyesore. There's no streetlights here, you can't see to get into your mailbox. There's handicapped people all up and down this street," says Margie Johnson who lives on the corner of 22nd street and 7th avenue.

"We don't have a choice it's almost like living in a trailer park. I don't have anything against people that live in trailer parks, but it's going to create a mess down there," says 22nd street A resident Patrick Hogue.

Residents are now trying to organize and convince the post office to go back to the way things used to be.

"My personal opinion and just like I told the post master, their mail carriers are lazy and don't want to walk these hills," explains Jodi Christy.

We tried to talk with the Moline Post Office about the new cluster boxes, but we were referred to the regional office in Kansas City. A spokesperson told us these boxes are here to stay because the safety of their mail carriers is a top priority. They say they’ve tried to address the crime issue for some time now but nothing’s been working.

“I've lived here 10 years and haven't seen a thing,” says Hogue.

Most of the folks forced to use these cluster boxes disagree with the post office. Some like Jodi Christie are convinced it’s nothing more than a way to cut costs.

"I don't know about you, but if I didn't want to do my job, it’s called insubordination. I'm sure there's plenty of other people who would love to have a job that they could walk in and make the money that they're making and deliver the mail," says Christy.

Moline officials are planning a meeting where both sides of the cluster box can come together to discuss their issues. A date or place for that meeting has not been set.
