A two-year-old boy suffered head trauma and burns before he died and police say the boyfriend of the child’s mother is responsible.

Bentley Randall was hospitalized after his mother reportedly left him in the care of 34-year-old Nicholas Reed on Friday, November 23, 2012.  Bentley was hospitalized with “submersion burns and was suffering from head trauma” according to a statement from Dubuque Police.

Two-year-old Bentley was later airlifted to the hospital at the University of Iowa where he died Sunday, November 25.

Reed was charged with neglect or abandonment of a dependent person.  When police searched Reed’s home, they said they found marijuana and methamphetamine.  That led to additional charges of manufacturing methamphetamine and marijuana.

All three counts Reed faces are felonies.
