A former area judge with a record of multiple drunk driving arrests is now accused of possessing marijuana.
James A. Weaver, a former Muscatine County judge, was arrested Sunday, March 31, 2013 at a hotel in Iowa City, Iowa.
Hotel officials had reportedly called Iowa City Police to have Weaver evicted after his credit card was declined. Police said there was a strong odor of marijuana in Weaver’s room and that they found marijuana, along with Weaver, in the room.
Weaver was charged with one felony count of possession of a controlled substance. At his first court appearance on the charge, Weaver was given until April 22 to retain an attorney.
Court records show Weaver has pleaded guilty to a total of three previous OWI charges – one in Muscatine County and two in Scott County – and that he has served time in prison.
