DAVENPORT, Iowa – A Davenport man was sentenced to 15 months in prison for collecting more than $50,000 in Social Security benefits while in prison.

James Clayton Bailey, 67,  served a prison term for sexual abuse from October 2009 to May 2014, according to a press release from the U.S. Department of Justice.

“During his incarceration, Bailey failed to notify SSA he was incarcerated and continued to receive his disability payments, knowing he was not qualified to receive such benefits,” the release said.

Bailey was sentenced Friday, Jan. 29 to 15 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release and ordered to pay $52,441.20 in restitution.

According to the Iowa Sex Offender Registry, Bailey was convicted in 2009 for third-degree sexual abuse in Clinton County, Iowa of a female victim under the age of 13.
