A man was arrested after reportedly threatening his girlfriend with a meat hook and preventing her from leaving their residence.

DAVENPORT, Iowa — A Davenport man is in jail after allegedly threatening and restraining his girlfriend Tuesday afternoon.

According to the Davenport Police Department, officers were dispatched to a home in the 1300 block of Gaines Street after a domestic violence call.

Reportedly, the suspect, 34-year-old Zackary Sherbeyn, had taken an object described as a meat hook, and attempted to strike his girlfriend, who lived with him, and her phone with it. He then allegedly held the weapon to her and threatened to slit her throat if she attempted to call the police or flee.

Sherbeyn then took her car keys knowing that this would dissuade her from leaving the home, he later admitted.

Sherbeyn was later arrested on charges of Domestic Abuse Assault While Using or Displaying a Weapon and False Imprisonment.
