Queen of Free: Mother's Day on a budget

Mother’s Day on a budget doesn’t mean you can’t show your love for mom.

INDIANAPOLIS — With less than a week until Mother's Day, a last-minute gift will still let you show your mom how much you love and appreciate her.

Cherie Lowe, the Queen of Free, shared her ideas on 13Sunrise and in her blog for Mother's Day gifts on any budget regardless of how much you can spend. "You can give a significant gift even without spending a dime," Lowe said.

If you have no spare cash to spend on a gift, "Take a few moments today to write down exactly how you feel and how much she means to you," Lowe suggested. A letter or email will let her know how much she matters to you.

Other ideas for the cash-strapped:

  • Share a home-cooked meal that you eat together or play her favorite game with her.
  • If you live with your mother, clean your room or a closet or bathroom so she doesn't have to do it.
  • Weed her flower bed.
  • Go for a walk together.
  • If you can't visit in person, try sharing a movie on Netflix and watch together or exchange texts as you watch.

If you only have $5-10 to spend:

  • Send an e-gift card for Amazon, a restaurant or dessert.
  • Buy her flowers.
  • Prepare a special brunch or cocktail.

If you can afford $20:

  • Order her favorite carry-out meal, and have it delivered if you can't be there.
  • Send her a plant or flower arrangement.
  • Send her new pajamas or a subscription for food, books or a streaming service.
