DES MOINES, Iowa — At 52 years old, Des Moines native Katherine Linn Caire accidentally learned more about her biological family – including a sister she'd never met.
Caire details the entire experience in her new book, titled "Accidental Sisters: The Story of My 52-Year Wait to Meet My Biological Sibling".
After being relinquished to Catholic Charities at birth, Caire lived an entire life without seeking out the identity of her birth family.
However, while searching for information regarding her biological parents' medical history, a social worker forgot to redact crucial information about them, according to Caire's author bio.
This mistake led her down the path to learn more about the family she'd never considered looking for, even leading her to the discovery of a half-sister along the way.
Though she grew up in Des Moines, Caire spent nearly 30 years in Dallas, Texas after attending Southern Methodist University. She now lives in Nashville, Tenn.
"Accidental Sisters" is her debut as an author, but she has previously illustrated a children's book.
Caire will be at Beaverdale Books at 6:30 p.m. Friday for a presentation, Q&A and book signing event discussing the book and her life.
