GENESEO, Illinois—
It's been a staple in Geneseo, but now the future of Weber's meats is uncertain after a fire heavily damaged the store overnight Wednesday.Firefighters say the blaze started just before 9 pm at the store at 117 North Russell Avenue in Geneseo.
After about an hour, Geneseo fire crews had put out the flames and begun their investigation. The owners of Weber's Meats say they're not sure just how much damage the fire caused.
The fire chief in Geneseo says the department hasn't determined what caused the blaze at the 16-year old storefront.
"It's just, it's kinda sad, you know for our bosses, for the building. I've spent 7 years of my life there, that's almost a third of my life, so it's like a second home for me. It was just kinda sad last night that it had to go down like it did" says Weber Meats employee Anthony Panicucci.
According to the company's website, the business was started in Geneseo by Scott and Dan Weber in 1993. Their grandfather, Otto Weber, opened his first store in Wisconsin in 1905.
