DAVENPORT, Iowa - Quad City voters headed to the polls today aren't getting stuck waiting in lines to cast their ballots.

Before Noon Tuesday, less than 100 people had voted at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds polling location. Davenport poll workers say even though turnout is low, they hope to have 15 percent of the vote by 8 p.m. tonight.

One of the reasons interest may be down this year is that many of the races aren't contested in the Iowa Quad Cities. No one is running against Davenport Mayor Bill Gluba or Bettendorf Mayor Mike Freemire. The same is true for some alderman position races even though four candidates are running for the Alderman at Large seat in Davenport, including former Alderman Keith Meyer.

A new technology is being used at four polling locations today. New electronic poll books allow voters to cast their ballots on computers, which also allows a quick count of the votes at the end of the day.

You can cast your vote until 8 p.m. tonight. The Scott County Auditor's Office says it hopes to have the electronic poll books in place at all voting precincts in time for the next Presidential election.
