EAST MOLINE, Illinois - It's noon on Monday. Customers are coming to Snoop's Grill, 907 15th Ave., East Moline, for the first time. It's a new business built on hard work, strong faith and a big dream.

While this economy isn't the best for opening a new restaurant, this is a dream to downsize the tough economy with good food.

"I thought, is this the right time to do it or not," Snoop Ramirez recalled. "This is the time. People have got to eat no matter what."

When it comes to building his signature tacos and other treats in the kitchen, Ramirez is a real artist. He turned a vacant storefront into a pleasant eatery in just over two weeks time.

"It's kind of small, but every little place has to start somewhere," he said. "We just want to make sure everybody comes in and has a great environment to eat and just a good time."

The staff of four and family made it all happen. It was a challenging task that also received some divine intervention.

"I went through and said a prayer of blessing," said Father Keith Walder, East Moline. "I went through and blessed all the ovens, fryers and refrigerators -- everything throughout the restaurant."

First-time lunch customers know all about Snoop's can-do attitude. A dedication to making the dream of owning his own business come true.

"He's a goer," said Manny Bustos, Snoop's cousin and customer. "He's always been that way. He doesn't let things get him down. Other people get down, not him."

With the telephone orders already coming in, this is just the start. The start of a new business after a lot of hard work.

"I started when I was 14," Snoop recalled. "I never thought this day would come, but it's finally here. I've got my own building, my own business, and it's just been wonderful."

Snoop's Grill is open Monday-Thursday from 11-8 and on Friday and Saturday from 11-10. It's closed on Sunday. Call (309) 752-9901 to order or get more information.
