DAVENPORT, Iowa -
Several mayors from the Quad Cities area worked to help end hunger by serving it up Wednesday afternoon.
Mayors from Davenport, Bettendorf, Rock Island, Moline, East Moline, Silvis and Milan donned aprons and served soup and crackers at a charity luncheon to benefit "In The Cold"
The group works to create awareness about homelessness and hunger and come up solutions for those affected. They're motto for the luncheon is "We eat simply so others may simply eat".
"People do go hungry and this is one time of the year we are able to spotlight that and hopefully as a result we can cut down a bit of that hunger that's out there" says East Moline mayor John Thodos.
Tickets for seats and raffle items raised money. The event raised $12,000 in 2008. Organizers were hoping for the same if not more at this year's annual luncheon.
