ERIE, Illinois—
On Thursday, area high school students got a harsh reminder about what is supposed to be on of the most fun nights of the year."Operation Prom Night" is a graphic way to keep kids from drinking and driving after the dance.
On Thursday afternoon, students from Erie High School watched the deadly possibility of what could happen, unfold right in front of their eyes.
Fellow classmates reenacted a deadly crash. They say it is important to remind their peers that they are not invincible.
One of the students who participated, Sean Leeds, says: "I wanted to be a part of this because I know a lot of people who do drink and drive and it's really dangerous. And I think sometimes teens don't realize how dangerous it is, they are not invincible and it coul really happen to them."
Emergency crews say events like this are typically the last time they get to speak with teens before they make those life and death decision on prom night.
