DAVENPORT, Iowa - Wednesday when Barack Obama talked about healthcare nurses stood by his side. It's one of the few careers that's growing even when the economy is ailing.

Teenagers are spending their summer break in nurses' shoes.

The Genesis Adventures in Nursing (GAIN) is a week long program where students see what they could become.

Shawna Waligorski a Moline Junior says, "Just everything that they do, like it's really inspiring I think. So, I think I would want to do that everybody looks up to people in the medical field."

It's a field that Barack Obama's council on economic advisors says will have robust job growth.

Assistant Professor at Saint Ambrose's School of Nursing, Kathryn McKnight says, "Healthcare is big despite the recession. We're still seeing interest in our occupational therapy, our physical therapy and our nursing programs."

McKnight says at Ambrose they are preparing students for the future.

"Nurses are going to be on the forefront of addressing what that reform looks like and we're probably be insuring more people to take care of we don not anticipate that the healthcare field in general or nursing in particular is going to shrink. It's going to expand."

She'll be visiting the GAIN camp on Friday where the students aren't sure if they will become tomorrow's nurses but know they'll have a job ready for them.

Bettendorf Senior Anthony TouVelle says, "Yeah, I definitely think that it's going to be a good idea to go into medicine and it's good for people to go into medicine because people will always be sick. People will always need help and you're always going to have a stable job whenever you are in medicine."

Waligorski agrees, "There's always going to be a jobs, a stable job a good financial income."

Obama's Council on Economic Advisors' report indicates some healthcare jobs could grow by 45% in the next 6 years.
