MUSCATINE, Iowa - Muscatine voters are deciding between three candidates for mayor in Tuesday's election.

Several hardworking volunteers were on hand in Muscatine to make sure everyone can get a chance to cast a ballot.

Current mayor Dick O'Brien, who's served as mayor for the last 14 years is one of the three people running for mayor.

Also running, Dawnese Openshaw, a small business owner in the community and Kim Otto.

Otto is a storm chaser who's chasing the seat for mayor but he's been absent from all the politics after he was hospitalized in September and needed surgery, so many predict this race is really between mayor O'Brien and Dawnese Openshaw.

Residents are also voting to fill city council spots for the 2nd ward, 4th ward and alderman at large.

As of 5pm Tuesday evening, the county auditor says turnout has been typical and around 13% since the polls opened at 7am.

Polls are open until 8pm and you can register and vote at the same time.
